Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulsivity, and activity levels. It is commonly diagnosed in childhood but can continue into adulthood. Individuals with ADHD may struggle with focus, organization, time management, and impulse control.

ADHD is not just about being “hyper,” it presents in different ways, including inattentive (difficulty focusing), hyperactive-impulsive (restlessness, impulsivity), or a combination of both. While ADHD can pose challenges in daily life, with the right strategies, support, and treatment, individuals can thrive personally and professionally.

Medical Aid PMBs

Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) are a specific set of benefits available to members of a registered medical scheme, as determined by the Council for Medical Schemes.

A PMB application cannot be submitted before the assessment/diagnosis process. It may only be considered after a diagnosis has been made and, where clinically appropriate, your treating psychologist determines that a PMB motivation is indicated.

Please note:

  • Initial assessment sessions are payable by the patient.
  • A PMB application requires relevant clinical information to be submitted to your medical aid.
  • PMB approval is assessed entirely by your medical aid and cannot be guaranteed.
  • The availability and extent of PMB benefits depend on your diagnosis, your medical aid, your benefit option, and your scheme rules.
  • Patients are responsible for monitoring their available PMB benefits throughout the year.
  • Once the clinical documentation has been completed, we will submit the application to your medical aid. We can only do so once we have received your completed and signed consent documentation.

If you have any questions about how a PMB application may affect your medical aid benefits, we recommend discussing this directly with your medical aid before proceeding.

For further information or to enquire about a PMB application, please email hello@spectrumcentre.co.za
