The number of sessions depends on the type of assessment:

  • ADHD: Minimum of 2 sessions
  • Combined ASD + ADHD: Minimum of 3 sessions (a 4th session may be recommended if needed)

We are affiliated with all major medical aids.

Payment is required upfront at least 24 hours before your appointment. After your session, we will provide a statement that you can submit to your medical aid for reimbursement.

For Discovery Medical Aid members, claims may be submitted directly depending on your plan and available savings. You are welcome to contact us with your full name and membership number so we can confirm whether we can submit the claim on your behalf.

Please note: A R150 levy fee per session is not covered by medical aid.

Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) are a set of benefits that all South African medical schemes are required to provide, as defined by the Council for Medical Schemes.

Council of Medical Schemes.

In psychology, PMBs may cover the cost of a limited number of consultations for certain qualifying diagnoses, typically up to 15 out-of-hospital sessions.

How the process works:

  1. Initial consultation (required)
The process begins with an initial consultation, which serves as a diagnostic session. This allows the clinician to understand your current concerns and determine whether a PMB application is clinically appropriate.
    This session is payable upfront.
  2. Statement for reimbursement
After the session, you can request a statement to submit to your medical aid for possible reimbursement.
  3. PMB application (if appropriate)
If clinically indicated, we can assist with completing and submitting a PMB application on your behalf. Please note that the application must be signed by you before submission.
  4. Medical aid review
Your medical aid will assess the application based on their criteria. Approval is not guaranteed and may vary depending on your scheme and plan.

Important to note:

  • PMB applications are typically reviewed annually
  • It is your responsibility to monitor your available benefits with your medical aid
  • Approval and extent of cover are determined by your medical aid

Our practice focuses on working with teenagers and adults, and unfortunately we do not offer services for younger children.

We understand how important it is to find the right support. While we don’t have specific external referrals to recommend, we encourage you to reach out to your GP, paediatrician, or medical aid, as they are often able to guide you toward appropriate services in your area.

Reports are available at an additional cost and can be requested after your final session, if a diagnosis has been confirmed.

To request a report, please email hello@spectrumcentre.co.za or send a WhatsApp message to +27 73 122 1688.

When making payment, please use your name and invoice number as a reference, and send proof of payment to hello@spectrumcentre.co.za

Please note: Reports are not covered by medical aid.

Our team consists of clinical and counselling psychologists and, in accordance with professional regulations, we do not prescribe medication.

Where appropriate, you are welcome to request a referral letter from your treating psychologist following your consultation, which you can take to your GP or psychiatrist for further assessment.

Sessions should not be booked on the same day and must be scheduled with the same psychologist.

You are welcome to book sessions within the same week, or space them one to two weeks apart, depending on your availability.

We recommend booking all sessions in advance, as appointment slots fill up quickly.

Yes, we offer both online (virtual) and in-person sessions for assessments and therapy.

Our offices are located in Randburg and Edenvale, Johannesburg.

The primary aim of a support group is to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where individuals can connect with others who share similar experiences.

Being part of a supportive community can help reduce feelings of isolation and may act as a protective factor against anxiety and low mood. There is no expectation to change your behaviour or way of thinking, the focus is on support, shared understanding, and connection.

You are welcome to:

  • Ask questions
  • Share your experiences
  • Listen and learn from others in similar situations

Our support groups are designed within a neurodivergent-affirming framework and include structured topics to provide focus and predictability.

Participation is flexible. You may choose to:

  • Speak
  • Use the chat
  • Simply observe

Passive participation is absolutely welcome, and sharing is gently encouraged by the facilitator during connection portions of the session.

Our services are designed for teenagers and adults who are exploring or seeking assessment and support for autism and ADHD.

Our current assessment process is best suited to individuals who are verbally communicative and able to engage independently in sessions. This typically aligns with a Level 1 autism presentation.

If you are unsure whether our services would be a good fit, you are welcome to contact us and we can guide you accordingly.

No specific preparation is required for your session.

You are welcome to bring along any previous reports or relevant information if you have them, but this is not necessary.
